Shameful And Horrifying

Yesterday, the ignorant buffoon who occupies the Oval Office shamed America and made the world far less safe. Acting more like a mafioso than the chief executive of a powerful and legitimate country, Trump (and his pathetic mini-me Vance) showed the world that America is no longer a trustworthy ally.

In an exhibition that had clearly been planned in advance, America’s President disgraced the country, and dishonored the sacrifices of the thousands of American soldiers who died defending democracy and fighting autocratic regimes.

President Zelensky had come to a meeting prepared to knuckle under to what can only be called a shakedown: Trump’s demand that, if you want us to continue supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression, then hand over your valuable mineral rights. When Zelensky arrived, Trump accused him of expressing inadequate “gratitude.”

Let’s deconstruct that demand for “gratitude.” We have supplied Ukraine with weapons that were manufactured in the U.S.– Americans made money producing those weapons. Furthermore, support for Ukraine has been unequivocally in America’s interest, and in the interest of NATO–an organization immensely important to the U.S. and world peace that Trump clearly disdains.

It is possible, of course, that Trump’s behavior is simply attributable to his undeniable stupidity– clearly, he neither understands nor cares where America’s global interests lie. But it is more likely that–as various Russian defectors and intelligence agents have asserted–he is a bought-and-paid-for Russian asset. Either way, he is a traitor, destroying American government at home while betraying our allies abroad.

In either event, he is helping Putin win his war against America and the West without needing to fire a shot.

If there remains any doubt about Trump’s allegiance to Putin, it should have been erased when, during the press conference, Trump characterized himself and Putin as “co-victims” of the investigations into Trump’s ties with Russia, which he called the “Russia hoax.”  Trump actually said “Let me tell you, Putin went through a hell of a lot with me. He went through a phony witch hunt where they used him and Russia, Russia, Russia.”

In the wake of yesterday’s shameful performance, Robert Hubbell summed up the cconsequencees.

Hubbell quoted Ron Filipkowski, who posted that  “Trump and Vance needed to create an incident to provide a justification for their pre-planned abandonment of Ukraine now, then separation from NATO in the near future.” Hubbell then wrote

Let’s be clear about the significance of Trump’s brutish behavior toward Zelensky:

Everyone in the world is less safe today because Trump’s fragile ego and non-existent negotiating skills could not tolerate a world leader speaking the truth to the American media in Trump’s presence.

Trump has officially switched sides in Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression against the Ukrainian people, telling Ukraine that it is on its own in defending itself against Russia.

Putin is celebrating in the Kremlin because his puppet Donald Trump has finally delivered the “payoff” in the corrupt bargain they struck years ago. Former Russian President Medvedev summed up Moscow’s view of the exchange, saying, “The insolent pig [Zelensky] finally got a slap down in the Oval Office.”

The US no longer has any allies in the world. No ally can rationally trust any promise by any representative of the United States after Trump abandoned Ukraine over its refusal to capitulate to blackmail…

The metals exploitation deal was naked extortion: Trump had made clear before Friday’s meeting that Ukraine would lose US support in the Russian war of aggression if Ukraine did not grant the US hundreds of billions of dollars in mining rights as “repayment” for money and weapons granted to Ukraine without expectation of repayment.

Trump, as usual, was acting like a mafioso boss, extorting Ukraine (for the second time) by demanding a benefit to which the US was not entitled but which Trump believed he could extract by withholding future military support. (Trump used the same tactic in 2019 when he demanded that Ukraine fabricate evidence of Joe Biden’s non-existent wrongdoing.)

The appalling performance followed a first-ever vote in the United Nations in which the U.S. sided with Russia and China against its allies and fellow democracies.

As Hubbell wrote,

Hundreds of thousands of Americans sacrificed their lives to earn the trust that Trump and JD Vance squandered in 45 minutes in the Oval Office by berating the heroic leader of a brave people whose fight against Russia promotes the peace and security of the United States and its (now) former allies.

If we had a functioning Congress, this shameful and hugely damaging performance would be grounds for immediate impeachment. But of course, we don’t have a functioning Congress.

We the People need to take our country back. Somehow.

  1. One could understand it if Zelensky gives Ukraine mineral rights to Europeans to make THEM richer in exchange for even more robust military support. Incidentally, Europe has already contributed MORE financial support to Ukraine than the United States, Trump’s exaggerations notwithstanding.

  2. Zelensky’s words are prophetic – essentially one day the ocean will not protect you. The body language of Trump and Vance – finger pointing, touching Zelenski’s shoulder – a near shove. Zelensky -touching his heart/chest and finally arms crossed. He came as a supplicant asking for protection. Wouldn’t it have been easier to have moved the meeting when things started to heat up? No. Performative is the key here. It makes good television.

    We will get the longed for isolation. The traitor in chief will extract us from NATO and let Putin “do whatever the hell he wants.”

    So, how do we rid ourselves of this orange shit-stain on our once great nation? Impeachment? We did that … twice, but a Republican led Senate couldn’t cough up enough courage to actually convict a criminal in our midst. Now the criminal has returned with all his goons and in just 4 weeks has managed to dismantle the world’s confidence in the U.S. as an ally, a trading partner and anything respectable.

  4. Are you finally awake, America? Are you fully aware of the chaos we face? MTV—Musk, Trump, Vance, and their loyal followers Johnson and Roberts—bring no benefit and only harm. They’ve demonstrated that they can’t be trusted without oversight while steering our nation’s ship. Their distractions prevent us from addressing the critical issues we must confront to avoid disaster.

    If I were in charge, I would replace the Constitution they flaunt with the Declaration of Independence.

Yesterdays venomous display by Trump and Vance is blatantly the strongest and most dangerous PROJECTION of Trump’s on-going search for WWIII to be his way to “nuke ’em” whomever the target may be. At one point he injected Hunter Biden’s name into the rambling and baseless equation; closed captioning moved too fast for me to make Trump’s connection. There couldn’t possibly be any connection to Hunter Biden but his revenge in the reasons for and planned actions for this meeting. Trump later touted his full loyalty and support for Putin and Russia; no surprise there. The issue of President Zelenskyy’s military garb became an issue to the MAGAs; it is his usual garb for all meetings with all heads of state globally. Trump was disguised as a gentleman and rational person in his usual suit with the over-long red tie manufactured in China with his other merchandise offering everything from sneakers to Bibles.

    The outcome of that pre-planned attack rather than a contract signing aimed to bring peace to Ukraine had me concerned about President Zelenskyy getting out of this country safely. How much lower can Trump go; he has been taken to task for his lies and disinformation by the President of France and the Prime Minister of UK this week along with some court decisions going against him so he must be near the boiling over point. We need to be afraid; be very afraid.

One of the characteristics of a psychopath is malignant narcissism. When a narcissist of his depth of depravity gets hammered by outside sources, the wiring is frayed even more.

    Watch for increasingly horrible moves by this creature. He is dissembling before our eyes. But will his complete collapse be in time before our nation is ruined beyond repair … you know, like one of Trump’s businesses?

    I’m unsure where Hubbell and Filipkowski get their information, but I completely disagree with their assessment. This public meeting should never have happened after two weeks of Zelenskyy, Trump, and Vance exchanging insults. They should have reconciled their relationships before holding a public press conference. Based on all the party’s comments, we have three very deluded men trying to have a rational conversation, which broke down in front of us. #shocking

    To be clear, Ukraine is a proxy war initiated by the US to weaken Russia. According to Kaja Kallas, “The goal is to take all of Russia and break it into smaller pieces.” LOL

    If you look on a map, Crimea is literally across the river from Moscow. Crimeans drive into Moscow and back for work. Do you think making Ukraine a member of NATO with a US military base isn’t an existential threat to Russia? That’s why Russia assumed control over Crimea immediately after our 2014 Euromaidan coup in Kyiv.

    Every peace talks between Ukraine and Russia were scuttled by the US/UK/EU/NATO. We didn’t want peace. That was rather obvious because there was no diplomacy between Russia and the US. How many European leaders called Putin? -0-

    Putin has always known who was behind Ukraine’s Maidan and our arming Ukraine was rather obvious. While Putin tried to stop the fighting numerous times, the US/EU killed the deals. That’s why when Zelenskyy made this comment, he was either intentionally lying or all the cocaine use has damaged his brain:

    “Zelensky asked Vance what kind of diplomacy he was talking about, given, for example, Russia’s 2014 invasion, or its violation of previous ceasefire agreements. Vance then unloaded, without addressing Zelensky’s concerns.”

    Vance and Trump expected Zelenskyy to sign the rare earth mineral agreement because he was out of options and needed the US’s support. They were wrong! Vlod must think Europe will support him and Ukraine, which they’ve said they would, but that was before this schadenfreude. Europe can’t afford it…

I think the USA should have a HUGE donor situation to help Ukraine against the 3 men in the White House.     In regard to this ambush of President Zelenskyy, Lucian Truscott IV’s Substack column today pointedly noted:
    “It is apparently just occurring to Trump that he is dealing with the president of a country that isn’t going to give up….Zelenskyy didn’t come right out and say it, but he made clear to Trump and Vance that his war against Russian aggression would not end until he, not them, says it ends. The two American nimcompoops in suits apparently were not listening….The pancaked putz stuck together with a half a can of Aqua Net was never going to stop this war on day one, and he learned today that he’s never going to stop it if he takes the side of Ukraine’s enemy, Vladimir Putin. Should they have called when the people of Ukraine overthrew their government, and sent their former oligarch President back to the guy who handed him his money? Maybe they should have called after Vlad sent troops to take Crimea?

    If I recall correctly there was a time when Russia itself wanted more than anything to be part of Europe. Think Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, and the Alexanders and Nicholas all of whom turned towards Europe.

    The Russian military has, at least from the time of World War I, been feared, not because they are great strategists or even great fighters, but because they are vicious and cruel. They have shown that they are still singing the same song in their savage treatment of Ukrainian civilians. I can’t imagine that any Ukrainian would want to be under Russian control.

    Yes, it’s true that I would rather talk about the savagery of the Russian Army than the savagery of our President and Vice President to a guest in our house, in that staged performance yesterday.     Another product of the war to weaken Russia is the de-facto American protectorate of Kosovo, since 2000 the poorest, most corrupt, nation in Europe, with an employment rate exceeding 35%.

    Also, for whoever asked, Eastern Russia, where most people live, is part of Europe. Western Russia is part of Asia.

    The problem is that when the CIA established itself in Ukraine, it hired prominent American PR firms to convey messaging to the country. It also created four news agencies to build up Vlod and the proxy war with Russia. Anyone who doesn’t believe Ukraine isn’t a proxy war watches too much TV news and has bought in to the created propaganda.

    Vern, the Kerch bridge connects Crimea to Russia, dividing the country by a river. That’s why Kyiv tried to blow it up. Would you be okay with Russia, China, North Korea, or Iran setting up a military base in Montreal? Do you think Washington would sit back and relax? What about bases across our southern border? I can imagine how Texas and Arizona would react.

    We’ve been expanding the so-called NATO “defensive alliance” since the ’90s when we said we would not. Last I checked, we have military bases all over Europe and on the other side of Russia’s border. Our MIC has been playing chicken with a nuclear armed power. If Putin wanted to wipe Ukraine off the map, he could have done it by now.

It was a shameful display of Trump’s/Vance’s character weaknesses, no regard for US past history, and their corrupt intentions.
    It was reported that one of the main reasons that Putin invaded Ukraine was to take over the use of Ukraine’s ultra valuable Lithium fields. Lithium is a mineral that’s used to make batteries that are used in most technology today and its value has skyrocketed. When it was reported that trump had made a deal to take over half of Ukraine’s lithium lode, we wondered if he was standing up to Putin. Trump showed whose side he’s on.

The U.S. does not just pay 16 percent of NATO’s budget but also puts up with asymmetrical tariffs that result in a European Union trade surplus of $160 billion, plays the world cop patrolling sea-lanes and deterring terrorists and rogues states that otherwise might interrupt Europe’s commercial networks abroad, as well as de facto including Europe under a nuclear umbrella of 6,500 nukes.

    4. Zelenskyy must know that all of the once deal-stopping issues to peace have been de facto settled: Ukraine is now better armed than most NATO nations, but will not be in NATO; and no president has or will ever supply Ukraine with the armed wherewithal to take back the Donbass and Crimea. So, the only two issues are a) how far will Putin be willing to withdraw to his 2022 borders and b) how will he be deterred? The first is answered by a commercial sector/tripwire, joint Ukrainian-US-Europe resource development corridor in Eastern Ukraine, coupled with a Korea-like DMZ; the second by the fact that Putin unlike his 2008 and 2014 invasions has now lost a million dead and wounded to a Ukraine that will remain thusly armed.

    5. What are Zelenskyy’s alternatives without much U.S. help—wait for a return of the Democrats to the White House in four years? Hope for a rearmed Europe? Pray for a Democratic House and a 3rd Vindman-like engineered Trump impeachment? Or swallow his pride, return to the White House, sign the rare-earth minerals deal, invite in the Euros (are they seriously willing to patrol a DMZ?), and hope Trump can warn Putin, as he did successfully between 2017-21, not to dare try it again?

    6. If there is a cease fire, a commercial deal, a Euro ground presence, and influx of Western companies into Ukraine, would there be elections? And if so, would Zelenskyy and his party win? And if not, would there be a successor transparent government that would reveal exactly where all the Western financial aid money went?

    7. Zelenskyy might see a model in Netanyahu. The Biden Administration was far harder on him than Trump is on Ukraine: suspending arms shipments, demanding cease-fires, prodding for a wartime, bipartisan cabinet, hammering Israel on collateral damage—none of which Westerners have demanded of Zelenskyy. Yet Netanyahu managed a hostile Biden, kept Israel close to its patron, and when visiting was gracious to his host. Netanyahu certainly would never before the global media have interrupted, and berated a host and patron president in the White House.

    8. If Ukraine has alienated the U.S. what then is its strategic victory plan? Wait around for more Euros? Hold off an increasingly invigorated Russian military? Cede more territory? What, then, exactly are Zelenskyy’s cards he seems to think are a winning hand?

    9. If one views carefully all the 50-minute tape, most of it was going quite well—until Zelenskyy started correcting Vance firstly, and Trump secondly. By Ukraine-splaining to his hosts, and by his gestures, tone, and interruptions, he made it clear that he assumed that Trump was just more of the same compliant, clueless moneybags Biden waxen effigy. And that was naïve for such a supposedly worldly leader.

    10. March 2025 is not March 2022, after the heroic saving of Kyiv—but three years and 1.5 million dead and wounded later. Zelenskyy is no longer the international heartthrob with the glamorous entourage. He has postponed elections, outlawed opposition media and parties, suspended habeas corpus and walked out of negotiations when he had an even hand in Spring 2022 and apparently even now when he does not in Spring 2025.

    Item 7: Netanyahu stood up to a hostile Biden….Todd and Ian might want to remind the rest of us that Genocide Joe didn’t do enough to stop Israel attacks on Palestinian civilians.
    Item 5: Vindman told the truth under oath about Trumps call w Zelenskyy. The still-cowering republican senate saved trumps fat ass, simultaneously undermining our democratic government. Is that what this expert saw? Or just the liberal media etc?
    Item 4: the de facto settlement refers to the agreement Trump administration made w Russia without consulting Ukraine? I assume that anything Trump declares is the final word, regardless of who else is involved.
    Item 3: referencing the list of options for EU to drop from consideration to pay for their own defense. I noted your conservative expert mentioned dropping renewable energy and social welfare programs. It must be nice to exist in that bubble. As many have pointed out in past posts, nature doesn’t care if you believe in climate change, it’s just going to keep proceeding. Has your expert considered the cost of dealing with climate issues: namely destruction of private property and cost to rebuild, cost of insurance-if you can still get it and lost lives and business disruptions? How do those stack up against green energy costs?

    Ukraine has a long history of Nazism going back to a man named Bandera who collaborated with Nazi Germany and Hitler. He is like a warrior god in Ukraine.

    Also, the militia that was attacking the Russian-speaking rebels in the Donbas region from 2014 to 2022 was called Azov Brigade, which has the swastika on their flag, and many of the men are tattooed with the swastika and/or Azov.

    Putin pointed it out in his SMO or special military operation. One of his goals was to de-nazify Ukraine. For Russia, the 2022 attack was a SMO and not classified as a war.

    The US propaganda machine has been whitewashing their Nazi connections because Americans wouldn’t back them. Anybody that points it out is labeled a “Russian stooge” or “Putin’s puppet.” 😉

The televised meeting of Trump,Vance and Zelenskyy was in my observation equivalent to two bullies in the schoolyard bullying a smaller person to give up his lunch money( earth minerals) in exchange for safety ( U.S Security).Trump always wants to be portrayed as the tough guy. Apparently, he has the republicans in Congress buffaloed but not Zelenskyy. And buy the way, did Russia or other Allies in WW2 ever financially reimburse the U.S. for our aid. Only Trump the Bernie Madoff of politicians would try and scam the world like he’s trying to do!

The only thing I disagree with in what Hubbell says is “Hundreds of thousands of Americans sacrificed their lives to earn the trust that Trump and JD Vance squandered in 45 minutes in the Oval Office….” Trump lost that trust early on into his first administration. Biden had built it back up again. Trump lost it for a second time in the first week of this administration (if not during the campaign last year). Tariffs meant to work against our allies? The Panama Canal and Greenland as assets we have a right to own? Canada annexed as our 51st state? Gaza as a millionaires’ playground? The Gulf of America? His and Vance’s maltreatment of Zelenskyy, a man whose greatly admirable qualities elude them because they don’t possess any of them, was the rotting cherry on top of the spoiled icing on a reeking cake. I keep thinking the stench can’t possibly get worse—and then it does.
