It’s no longer possible to pretend that he’s not a lunatic.
Stephen Beschloss recently described Trump as a “deeply unwell man who doesn’t belong anywhere near the seat of power.” Heather Cox Richardson has quoted journalist Aaron Rupar’s distress over the fact that “It’s really difficult to cover him in a way that conveys how unhinged he is.”
Among other outlets, The Daily Beast has reported on warnings from mental health experts, who say that Trump’s rate of deterioration is rapidly accelerating. The linked article quoted a psychologist– a former professor at Johns Hopkins University–who warned that Trump has been “showing signs of frontotemporal dementia since 2019.” The psychologist, Dr. John Gartner, said that Trump’s deterioration is now accelerating so quickly that he is “not the same man he was four weeks ago,” even as the president wages a dangerous and insane war with Iran.
“What is most disturbing for the world is that people with frontotemporal dementia lose all judgment, all inhibition, all ability to inhibit their behavior, and they become disinhibited and aggressive,” he told host Joanna Coles, the Daily Beast’s chief content officer.
The psychologist pointed to the expletive-laden Truth Social tirade Trump sent off on Easter morning, in which he threatened to hit civilian infrastructure in Iran, a potential war crime.
Gartner said the post “shows the interaction” of frontotemporal dementia with malignant narcissism, a rare and severe personality disorder marked by paranoia, antisocial personality disorder, and sadism that he claimed Trump has exhibited his whole life.
Gartner said the President is currently “a raging id with no frontal lobes and no guardrails.”
A majority of Americans have already concluded that Trump is seriously mentally ill, a condition made more dangerous as he slips further into dementia. Gartner is hardly the only mental health expert to offer that diagnosis, despite professional reluctance to opine on conditions without in-person examination. Dr. Vin Gupta–an MS NOW medical analyst– took to social media in the wake of Trump’s Easter obscenities, posting “Erratic. Can’t finish sentences. Often confused. Illogical train of thought. Word finding difficulties. Developing and worsening gradually over time,” noting that these were “all the signs of dementia.”
The evidence of mental incompetence is overwhelming. Our situation has been analogized to giving a toddler a loaded gun and sending him to a birthday party–but our Madman-in-Chief can do immensely more harm than that toddler.
If competent people remained in the higher ranks of government, they would have exercised the 25th Amendment long before now. But Trump hasn’t just filled his administration with a collection of cowards, grifters and sycophants–he has elevated people who are also mentally ill. Think RFK, Jr–he of the brain worm, drug habits and anti-science animus, or the fanatic Christian warmonger and White nationalist Pete Hegseth, or JD Vance (or whatever his real name is)…there is quite obviously no one in that pathetically incompetent circus of a cabinet willing to elevate the good of the nation over their own preoccupations.
And at the same time we lack a rational, functioning Executive branch, we have a Congress that Jon Stewart has aptly compared to nipples on a man. Useless. Non-functional.
Our mad, would-be dictator has plunged us into a war of whim, with no plan, no strategy–and was clearly shocked by the utterly predictable closing of the Straits of Hormuz. Reports are that his demented Secretary of Holy War has fired thirty high-ranking military officers who refused to send ground troops into Iran.
I write these blog entries a few days ahead, so by the time you read this one, the maniac we’ve entrusted with our national security may have committed the war crimes he has been constantly threatening. He may have used nuclear weapons. He may have triggered World War III. It’s impossible to predict what a raging id with no frontal lobes or guardrails will do.
Meanwhile, Putin is benefitting, gas prices are edging up toward $5 per gallon, farmers are going under, masked ICE agents are routinely violating the Fourth Amendment, people are being kicked off Medicare and Medicaid…
We’re paying a very high price for the racism that elected him. I wonder if the MAGA morons will connect those dots….

Here is what is equally, if not more, worrisome: A March/April 2026 Quinnipiac poll showed 80% approval for his handling of military action in Iran, while other metrics indicated roughly 81%–86% overall favorability among GOP voters. For the life of me, I can’t understand that what’s plain as the hand in front of our face is a-ok for most Republicans. If this mad man nuked Philadelphia, I can only imagine the pretzel logic his abettors would use to approve. An off-ramp from this insanity eludes me.
Seems easy enough to answer the last question. Mostly–and purposefully–they won’t.
MAGA doesn’t worship Trump for rational reasons. He is their cult leader fighting the cultural modernity they fear and hate. There is a floor to his support, but it’s way higher than most people credit. We may be nearing it.
That was the point of my analogy. The world constitutes the birthday party, and we are all at risk. Your country has the ability to do just a stunning amount of damage to us all, to all life on this tiny, helpless planet. We’re inching ever closer to one of the responses to the Fermi Paradox. I truly think the world has never been in this much danger. If he uses a nuclear weapon, and you _know_ he wants to…
Anyway, not being American, I am doing what I can, which mainly involves swearing off the USA, and promoting the plan for my country to go ahead with the rest of the reasonable world without you. I hope you come out of this and join us again one day, but I really don’t know if it’s possible at all.
The Iran “Cease Fire” is another distraction to give him and his disastrous administration time to find a believable explanation for why his threat to destroy an entire civilization was not a war crime. The Hormus Strait is still blocked, Israel is still attacking Lebanon with the excuse that it is not part of the “Cease Fire” agreement.
My first visit to my new doctor on Tuesday required completing a questionnaire on my general mood, I was then asked by him to explain my reasons for depression. He believes “we will all be perfectly fine under Trump”; when I suggested probably continuing war means the possible reinstatement of the draft he didn’t believe that will happen, no concern for his 18 year old son. This morning a news brief of my cell phone; in December all 18 to 25 year olds will automatically be listed for the Draft. Does that include women or is that one way of preventing future women in the military as he is removing those he can and has removed their military records from Arlington Cemetery and the Pentagon? Nothing is made clear, understandable and isn’t believable even when they sometimes post notices before taking action.

A Trump TACO agreement is as meaningless as his marriage vows have always been; Stormy Daniels collected a nice sum on that one.
We have reached a point where there appears to be little that any of us can do to alter this situation. Phone calls, letters, emails, and protests have had little effect on those whose responsibility it is to protect the country from a madman president. So, what can we do?
I’m reading Peter Baker’s book, “The Divider”. It’s about Trump 1.0 and it exposes the prejudices that Trump’s carried with him most of his life including, but not limited to the takeover of Venezuelan oil. He’s fixated on Iran, always has been. These are just a few of the things that define his mental state. The way he goes through cabinet people, the vile, harsh and idiotic rants and rages over the smallest of details … and all the rest certainly give credence to the medical analysis.
What is most disturbing, however, is the fact that the little weasel masquerading as Speaker of the House does nothing except fawn over the President. The Republicans follow suit. What will it take before these spineless idiots wake up and act to save our nation – and perhaps the world – from the madman with nukes? Why isn’t corporate/banking America directing their employees in Congress to save their sources of obscene wealth generated by what remains of our democratic republic.
We are aiming the gun at our own feet and allowing the maniac to put his finger on the trigger.
Oh, and the deterioration will get worse – much worse – very quickly. We may not have time for the mid-term elections to do any good.
For some reason former generals think that Dan Caine will stop him before he fires the nukes. I’m not sure why they think that, since he didn’t stop the killings of survivors of the strikes on the boats in the Caribbean, a clear violation of the rules of engagement and a war crime. While I’m thinking of it, did anyone ever find drug refuse from those boats?
It looks as if the generals who might have stopped Orange Jesus (OJ) have all been relieved of duty. OJ has found his Jack Ripper! God help us.
VOTE!!!!!
Why do you think our oligarchs insisted on write-offs for their yachts to go with the multimillion-dollar checks they wrote to Trump’s campaign? They even own their little Islands with palatial underground homes. Why doesn’t the “MEDIA” have their mics shoved up the asses of Bezos, Musk, and oil execs, asking them why they aren’t concerned about Trump’s imminent deterioration?
Isn’t what Trump is trying to explain a “neutron bomb” that wipes out humans but leaves physical structures behind? If you don’t think Bibi and the Anglo-Zionists running this country aren’t salivating over wiping out the Iranian people – wake up!
And, where the HELL are all the European leaders? Those imbeciles trained by the Bilderbergs are an embarrassment. I don’t think Kaja Kallas even knows where Iran is located.
In one of my last hospital stays, they plopped me on the bed with Fox News blaring on the TV. I said, “Please turn that shit off!” A loving nurse asked, “Why didn’t I want to keep up with what’s going on in the world?” My frontal lobe must still be working, because I refrained from saying what came into my mind. LOL
Instead of analysts and paid mouthpieces, ask the owners why they aren’t nervous about Trump and the possibility of Hormuz being closed. Quit talking to Plebes, and ask the Owners. Let the billionaires tell the people why they aren’t worried about great grandpa running the country!!!
Years ago, in 2017, “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,”a book edited by Bandy X. Lee, psychiatrist, outlined how dangerous this clown is. No, none of those who wrote about him had interviewed him, but as written today, and at other times, his mental disability is so obvious, that that was no really needed.
The concept of Malignant Narcissism may, now, get a wider appreciation as he is, sadly, becoming still more obviously unhinged.
And, now, the admin. has treated the Pope:
Pentagon Threatened the Pope — and He Cancelled His U.S. Trip
This story is almost too extraordinary to believe, but it is documented and it matters. After Pope Leo XIV delivered his State of the World address in January — arguing that diplomacy was being replaced by force and that “a zeal for war is spreading” — Undersecretary of Defense Elbridge Colby summoned Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the Vatican’s U.S. representative, to a closed-door meeting at the Pentagon. What was said inside that room has no precedent in American history.
Sources familiar with the meeting say Colby told the cardinal directly: “The United States has the military power to do whatever it wants in the world. The Catholic Church had better take its side.” A U.S. official present then invoked the Avignon papacy — the 14th-century episode in which the French monarchy forced the Catholic Church into submission, ordered an assault on Pope Boniface VIII, and relocated the papacy from Rome to southern France. Many inside the Vatican interpreted that historical reference as a direct threat to use military force against the Holy See. There are no public records of any previous meeting between American officials and Vatican representatives at the Pentagon, let alone one in which the United States suggested it could force the Bishop of Rome into captivity.
Every American president since Eisenhower has understood that the moral authority of religious institutions, however imperfect, is one of the few forces in the world that can check the impulse toward endless war. What this administration did in that room wasn’t just a diplomatic blunder. It was a declaration that it recognizes no authority above its own, not law, not history, and not conscience.
The consequences were immediate. Pope Leo cancelled his planned visit to the United States. And on July 4th — America’s 250th birthday — rather than celebrating with the administration that threatened him, he will visit Lampedusa, the tiny Mediterranean island where North African migrants wash ashore by the thousands. He did not choose that date by accident. The White House dismissed the entire account as “highly exaggerated and distorted,” insisting the meeting was “respectful and reasonable.” You can draw your own conclusions.
From “RawStory”
It’s wearing to live under the abuse of constant threat. When words are void of meaning all trump and companies’ prattle adds to the ever-increasing tension. The main reason trump remains in the top job, that he’s not capable of doing competently, is for protection from just consequences of his many crimes. Also, the built-in advantage of his office to leverage and extort value from foreign entities for his personal gain is a reason. US is suffering the loss of status, trust and treasure under his regime.
Majority of Americans need to make the “No Confidence” in his administration a weight that Congress has to positively address to keep citizens and the world safe from trump’s ramping up destructive mania.
Thank you, Rose for; “It’s wearing to live under the abuse of constant threat.”
Your comment reminded me of the plea for help by the mother of the young boy in “The Sixth Sense”.
“I am tired in my mind. I am tired in my body. I am tired in my heart.” We are being worn down as they increase the threats daily and some days almost hourly. We have played by the rules and they have used those same rules against us, protected by many of the rights in the Constitution, they have sold out to the billionaires who can buy more votes in elections. The 36 Republicans who are leaving Congress have probably been bought to be replaced by worse replacements. Voters are trying to pay mortgages or rent to keep their homes, keep food on the table for their families, medication for their health and gas in their cars to get to work if they are lucky enough to still have a job. My E-mail is filled and refilled and refilled again with pleas from Democratic organizations and candidates for donations; there are no longer social services to aid us if we fall behind by sending donations hoping to buy our own candidate’s victory. This is a different war for survival than Americans have fought for in the past; will our story be told? Trump is hiding his own documented history of evil along with unknown number of years of our actual 250 year history…warts and all.
I pointed out to someone earlier today about the coming December act of automatic draft registration for all 18 to 25 year olds. The response was that their sons were registered for the draft when they registered to vote; no connection was made that the concentrated efforts to deny votes by the current administration could be the reason for this new ruling.
AND WHERE ARE THOSE REPORTEDLY RESCUED PILOTS WHOSE PLANES WERE DOWNED IN IRAN? MORE LIES FROM OUR LEAD LIAR?
You do realize that Trump’s father also suffered from mental issues…Hello!!!! It is way past time for the 25th Amendment to be enacted and all of his sycophants to be removed with him.
JoAnn, it’s not fair for Americans to be subject to the rantings of the mad King. I can’t block it all out because I want to know what’s going on, but it does totally wear me down.
I don’t donate much to politicians, keeping my little family above board is my main concern.
You’re right about the draft. I think it applies to only males from 18 to 25 years old. My mom told me during WWll when she graduated nurses training from St. Vincent’s that when she applied for a job they told her she would have to first take the army physical before they could hire her. So, she was in a way drafted.
I hope they let us see the down pilots interviewed it would be a boost for morale. I certainly don’t like the “glorification of war” attitude of the current defense department, and hate being on the needlessly aggressor side.
Well, fuck.
In a other timeline it would be sad. To be SO unloved by anyone. To have not a single family member or friend that tried to help a man so obviously ill. To have wealth and possess nothing.
